Drinking Water in Stelle

Although the water we pull from our 600’ deep well is clean and safe to drink (no traces of farm chemicals yet), and especially following our filtration and treatment process, it still might have a noticeable (unpleasant?) taste to some. These minerals come from the limestone bedrock within which this clean water resides.

As an option for cleaner looking and tasting drinking water to those who would prefer this we have installed our own community Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment unit which pulls out the vast majority of the minerals (as well as any possible bacteria and viruses). This is located in the utility room on the west side of the Community Center by the mailroom.

The cost is $.40/gallon and is set up as a self-serve station. Just write down your name, house number and the number of gallons you dispensed and your monthly total will show up on your SCA utility bill.

Something to Consider

Since the RO unit is so effective at pulling out minerals, some of us have read that the long-term drinking of RO water might possibly be harmful if a person does not have a diet rich in complex minerals. Because of this some residents are adding healthy mineral supplements to their water. We’re talking about 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, so a quart bottle lasts a very long time (about 400 gallons).

We are not making any recommendations but here are examples of produces one might use.
