Dog Ownership Guidelines

In the community of Stelle we follow the Illinois State guidelines for pet ownership which is summarized as:

Dogs are prohibited from running at large in Illinois.

Leash
Out of consideration for the safety and comfort of all community members, dogs should either be:

1.    Kept in the owner’s home.

2.      In a fenced-in area when let outside unattended.

3.      On a leash when being walked.

Barking
Dogs do bark, and some of that here is to be expected. But if your dog carries on while you are away from home, or when left outside in the fenced-in area, or especially at night if the dog is outside, this is a real discourtesy to others. This is something you will have to address and solve.

Vaccinations
The Illinois’ Animal Control Act states that all dog and cat owners must vaccinate their pets for rabies.

Dog Poop
Your dog, your poop. Nothing should ever be left in the common areas or in other people’s yards. Let’s face it, none of us likes stepping in dog poop. The common area includes the CSC land that is located west of town where the gardens, pond and orchard are. You are welcome to walk your dogs here for it is lovely for both you and the dog, but the poop needs to be picked up.

Thanks for helping make our community safe, clean and enjoyable for all.
