FESTIVAL OF JOY Friday July 4th, 2008 The Festival of Joy has been Stelle's annual celebration of the fourth of July for over 30 years. It is a time for us to celebrate the wonderful live that we have because of the founding of our country, and a time to relax and play as a community. Often we have visitors including family, friends, and former residents who choose to enjoy this community celebration with us. The events this year begin with the singing of the national anthem and raising of the flag at the entry park, followed by the traditional parade around the crescent at 1:00 PM. This year's theme for the parade is "Post Peak Oil Paradise". get your bikes, scooters, electric cars, wagons and floats ready! The afternoon will be full of games, water play, music, swimming, baseball, volleyball, visiting and much more - culminating with our shared picnic supper around 5:00 PM. This year we will provide burgers (organic beef, organic locally grown Mint Creek lamb and Boca Burgers). If enough people sign up to share the music, readings and skits, we will close the evening with an old fashioned variety show. To make the event work we highly encourage everyone to bring a dish to share for the dinner (does not have to be organic) and to sign up to help with the clean-up. The cost of a ticket is $7.00 per adult if you sign up in advance or $9.00 with no advance sign-up. The cost for children ages 4 to 12 is $4.50. The cost of your ticket covers the basic meal of burgers, drinks throughout the day, watermelon, chips and salsa, paper goods, equipment rental, utilities, copying costs and miscellaneous supplies. This year all food supplied by the SCA will be organic. Please call the SCA office (815)256-2208 to make reservations for the day. |
